Many of the experiences and opportunities emerged out of a single unconditional act of sharing. Over the years, I have always remembered one such act of sharing during a casual conversation with my tenth-grade biology teacher, Mrs. Carolyn Dorman. She simply asked, "What do you want to do in life?" followed with "What do you like doing?" My answers led the insightful teacher to present me with a booklet, "A Lab Career in Medical Technology" produced by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). This single act of sharing inspired me to learn more about becoming a Medical Technologist.
After graduating as class valedictorian from Worcester Jr-Sr High School, I attended and graduated from the Medical Technology program at Morgan State University and the Union Memorial Hospital - School of Medical Technology. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology and a Certificate of Medical Technology, it was indeed a pleasure to inform my high school teacher that I had passed the ASCP's national laboratory certification examination on the first round.
Although many family members, teachers, colleagues, and even strangers have been motivators throughout the years, the most powerful moment will always be when one teacher paused to share information based on her observation of one student's early interest in laboratory science. That simple act of sharing ignited a diverse career in medical technology and public health as a college laboratory assistant, research lab technician, phlebotomist, hospital medical technologist, health department laboratory coordinator, laboratory planner/designer, international GTI consultant, international medical instructor, HIV/AIDS project manager, STD/STI laboratory consultant/instructor, and 3D virtual laboratory designer/developer.

It is my hope that my professional experience will inspired students (middle school, high school and beyond) and other individuals with an interest in science and the exploration of another dimension... physical, microscopic or virtual.
