"Real to Virtual; Virtual to Real" Workshops
Capacity Building through Virtual Worlds

The workshop, “Real to Virtual; Virtual to Real: Capacity Building through Virtual Worlds” offers introductory information, success stories, mixed reality discussions, and project planning tips pertaining to virtual world platforms such as Second Life and OpenSim. The overall goal of the workshop is to provide the participants an opportunity to learn about virtual worlds through in-world experiences, mixed reality discussions, and case studies.

After the workshop, participants should have a better understand of 3D virtual worlds and how to integrate the technology into collaborative projects, outreach, marketing, networking, and other real life projects.
Nonprofit participants will learn about becoming a new tenant within TechSoup’s Nonprofit Commons in Second Life (NPC) as well as start the application process to obtain a free virtual office space. NPC is a growing community of global nonprofit organizations offering ongoing opportunities to collaborate, connect, network, share information, and promote your organization’s mission. Business and other participants will learn about marketing their services and products in Second Life, Kitely, JokaydiaGRID, and relevant virtual world communities.

In addition, participants will receive information about several virtual world applications in public health, educational, medical, and business. Participants will be able to start mapping a plan for their own virtual-based project (or community).

Who Should Attend The "Real to Virtual; Virtual to Real: Capacity Building through Virtual Worlds” Workshop is designed for nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, educators, businesses, librarians, community groups, government agencies and any interested individuals who are looking to develop a virtual world presence to promote real life awareness or to enhance the delivery of services, information, and resources regardless of physical location or physical accessibility.
